The Apolo Theatre was built by the society "La Amistad", and designed by the Torre Pacheco architect Pedro Cerdán Martínez, and was inaugurated on Friday, 4th January 1907. It is a modernist work built at the height of the mining boom in the Sierra de Cartagena-La Unión.
After a long period of intense programming, at the end of the sixties it went into a process of decline, abandoning activity definitively at the beginning of the seventies.
In 1989, the Neighbourhood Association of El Algar and the Alborada Sociocultural Platform finally obtained the transfer of the property from the owners of the rights to the building, which was declared a BIC in 1998 in the category of Artistic Monument.
In 2009, it underwent its last refurbishment, where theatre, music, dance and other events were held.
