Artist Colonialist, 2010
Using live television reportage, Thierry Geoffroy will investigate the motto of Manifesta 8: in dialogue with northern Africa. How was this subtext chosen for Manifesta 8 and what are the motivations? Is this a wish for the future or just propaganda for a non-existing dialogue? Like Inspector Columbo, Geoffroy will investigate, interrogate, confront and look for evidence of dialogue or non-dialogue.
Penetration, 2010
As part of this process, Geoffroy will open a room in San Antón Prison for incursions (or what he calls "Penetrations"), open to artists from North Africa only.

Thierry Geoffroy / Colonel
1961, Nancy (France). Lives and work in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Thierry Geoffroy's aim is to activate debates about emergencies using easy-to-access formats. Over the years, in different countries, he has created Emergency Room, Critical Run, Slow Dance, Debate Rave, Protest fashion and HeadQuarter alife. He sees the artist as a detective, looking for dysfunction and searching for visual evidence and clues of present-day crises, with the responsibility to act before it is too late. Since 1986, he has used the mass media in his work, including television, to create a hot-line to the public. His strategy of distribution includes working with social media, at techno raves and as part of protest demonstrations. Through Emergency Room, artists can scan the emergencies of today and respond immediately to their discoveries of conflicts and discrepancies. Geoffroy is now fighting to implant a permanent Emergency Room in every country with access to a TV station, to establish an "academy" of Emergency art. http://www.colonel.dk
