Response to Three Essays: Television
Michael Baers uses montage as his method and the comic book
is his métier. He illustrates and discusses various situations, often
inspired by history and art theory. Since 2004 he has produced
numerous works - typically in the format of tabloid-style comics
- for exhibitions, as well as contributing to diverse journals and
magazines. His work addresses a wide range of topics. Thematically
it revolves around the discrepancy between ideological (mythic)
knowledge and historical fact. For the Manifesta 8 catalogue, Baers
has produced a special artist¿s project, printed as a six-page comic
storyboard, depicting a solitary man reflecting on philosophical
questions about the effects of televised media, subsequently answered
by the media itself.
